This summer has been amazing. I have the best couples in the whole entire world.

I was so excited to be shooting Erin and Brad’s wedding – and to add to the excitement I brought along my friend Tyler Bertrand. I loved seeing the reactions as I introduced myself as Taylor, and he introduced himself as Tyler right after.

Erin and Brad were married on Tom Patterson Island in the Avon River, Stratford. From there it was on to Confederation Park by the Gallery for photos, and then on to Arden Park Hotel.

All and all it was an amazing day.

Here are a few of my photos from the day:

It was a beautiful day, and there were some white doves to be released. Oh, and the doves will find their way back home to their trainer.

Here’s a slideshow with the images Tyler and I took during the day:

So I went on a bit of a trip on Tuesday/Wednesday – a lot of cities, in a short amount of time. Well, it was a little more than 48 hours, as we arrived at 11pm the Monday night, and flew out 6am on Thursday.

We flew into Las Vegas (in retrospect…we probably should have just flown into LAX) drove to the West Coast, stayed the night, drove back, and flew home.
Tuesday – had a room at the Monte Carlo, beside all the L.V. City Center construction. All the big lifting, and loud noises have pretty much come to a halt (they’ve been workin’ on this thing forever) and after checking in, we went out for a wander. Won a little bit of money, saw some cowboys, etc.

After 3 or 4 hours sleep we grabbed a rental car, and headed to the L.A. area. First stop – Baker. If you’ve seen Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas…you’ll be disappointed with real life Baker. I was looking forward to a city falling apart, and possibly Tobey Maguire with slicked back blond hair. No luck. We did find an old gas station though.

We took a random road and drove a few miles into the desert. There we found a beautiful abandoned fridge (as well as washer, and dryer). They each had a few shotgun wounds, but were good for a photo-op.

We hit the road again, past Barstow and onto L.A.

First stop was Walgreen’s on Sunset for some sunscreen. Second stop was Santa Monica pier. Parking was $1, and free after 6. Toronto has a thing or two to learn from CA.

From there we packed up and headed to Malibu. Free parking lined the streets, and surfers lined the ocean. No one was surfing…just floating, waiting for the waves to pick up.

There’s a great Jack In The Box on the Pacific Coast Highway…it’s beautiful, and right across from the ocean. Almost makes fast food seem good for you.

Parked outside a CVS, and ran up on the bridge for this shot. This is my favorite from the trip.

From there it was back to West Hollywood.

Hollywood in general is a slew of gated communities, gated mansions, and traffic. But…free parking! We went out to a restaurant right beside Ketchup (Lauren & Jason accidentally end up there with Heidi and Spencer in Season 3 of The Hills…that’s right, I know that off hand.)

The next morning we went out for a hike in the Hollywood Hills. They’re taller than you think.

(the Hollywood sign is that white spec in the distance)

Here’s a quick zoom of the smog level around downtown.

We packed up, and headed back to Vegas. Stopped at In N Out along the way. It was delicious. I really enjoy their menu system. You have your choice of 3 different burgers, fries or onion rings, and pop, milk, or a milkshake. That’s it. It’s like a Mac fast food joint.

We spotted a ghost town by the name of Calico, and popped off the highway.

I have a compelling desire to stay at this hotel.

Stopped outside of Baker again.

And then back to Vegas.

We stayed at the Excalibur as a joke. Common, it’s a castle..it looks ridiculous. And they upgraded our room to a full suite for free. (Thanks to overbooking)
For that…I may consider staying there again.

In the morning, I had a few hours to kill in Denver, then it was back to Toronto.

And that…was my trip.

Alright, so after receiving a metric ton of ‘Taylor, update your blog!’ comments via email, text message, facebook, and voice…I’ve decided to.

It’s not that I’ve been lazy – quite the opposite in fact. I’ve just been too busy looking after clients / family / friends to keep everyone updated. So here is part one of what I’ve been up to since November.

Las Vegas, NV.

The Luxor was our home for a few days. Fun facts about the Luxor:
1. The elevators are actually inclinators that go up on ~60 degree angles. You never really know which way you’re going to get pulled in, fun stuff.
2. There is a Starbucks as soon as you get off the inclinator.
3. Carrot Top was everywhere.

So this is my second attempt to get this photo. Sadly this time, I was on the the side opposite to the Strip upon landing. This photo was taken during the decent (well, actually downwind on the circuit if you’re a fellow pilot)

There’s a couple of these kicking around in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas is pretty fake. Plastic grass, palm trees, etc. That said, these are real, legit, palm trees.

Not sure about these ones.

Paris.

You get some crazy reflections through the windows of a pyramid.

Las Vegas City Center…still under construction. It’s mammoth.

Street side escalators are pretty much the norm.

Flight out.

That’s all for now. I’ll update this more frequently. Promise.

After checking my webstats today, I discovered that I have a ton of blog visitors from out in the L.A/O.C. area in California.
Well good news! Pchan and I are doing a little bit of traveling in November. We’ll be hitting Las Vegas for a wedding, and an engagement shoot, and then heading over to L.A.

If you live in Las Vegas, and happen to be getting married in November – or just want to throw on the dress (or tux if you have a Y chromosome) again for a photo session, send me an email! taylorjackson@gmail.com

We’ll be in L.A. for a short time, and I would love to get something started up either in Hollywood or Santa Monica.

—-
Anyways, I’m off to photograph Tania and Ali’s wedding in a few hours. It’s a beautiful day for an October wedding. This week had me a bit worried.

Tomorrow I’m doing a few fashion shoots with Carrie over at http://www.beautymarked.ca/. We have a ton of great locations picked out, including a local furniture store!

Also, I’m getting really excited for Jenny’s wedding next week in Toronto. It’s an elopement, with 3 guests, at City Hall in Toronto. There are SO many good locations within about 30 seconds of there.

That’s all for now, I’ll check in soon with some photos from Chris’ wedding 2 weeks ago, and a few from this week.

Taylor

Early last week, Marty and I went out to capture some HD footage of traffic for ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems, World Congress 2008 if you want the long title)

More or less we were just recreating exactly what traffic cameras do, but in HD. Exciting eh?

It’s hard to get elevated above traffic in a manner that looks like a legit traffic camera. The video can’t be too good, or it won’t be believable.

We then had a quick brainstorm session. We needed to get high above a few major intersections…this one was the first one we thought of.
If you’re from the Cambridge area, you probably know where this is. (Hespeler Rd and Pinebush)

I’m happy they didn’t turn the waterfalls on while we were up there.
