As a wedding photographer, you get to shoot in some pretty unique locations. The Distillery District in downtown Toronto is one of the most unique, and beautiful locations you can find in Ontario.

If you’re from Southern Ontario, you may remember Saturday –Gorgeous, beautiful, sunny day…until about 4pm. Around then a nice little storm rolled into Kitchener, and took down powerlines, and stop lights. Well, it was a good thing we were in Toronto! We had until about 5:15 before umbrellas started getting pulled from patios. No Joke, the wind ripped a patio umbrella right out of a table of the Mill St. Brew Pub, and threw it straight up in the air – quite the experience.

Jill, Craig and I met up at around 5pm – we could see the storm, and knew we had to act fast, so that’s just what we did. We got a lot of great photos in that 15 minutes, before we got a little rained out. From there we headed inside for a little bit.

Here’s a few of the photos.

I love the old school Hollywood feel to this image.

This one above is my favorite.

Trash the dress — The plan? Throw paint at Robyn in a wedding dress.

We shot these less than 24 hours ago, and I was excited to share them, so I stayed up all night editing. (Disclaimer: I did not actually stay up the entire night)

Robyn is a wedding coordinator from Cambridge. She’s not a model, but did an amazing job yesterday! I’m thinking she watched some America’s Next Top Model to get prepare. It’s funny, T.V. can actually teach you things you can apply in real life! (Other than how to run around Amsterdam on go-see’s)

Things started out with a regular little photo session. Then little Olivia painted Robyn’s dress for her. I can’t show pictures of the process just yet, as Olivia’s mom has to approve the photos first.

We shot this all at an industrial building in Kitchener. It was November, and it was cold out, so everything was done inside. 90% of the shots here were ambient light only (no flash), which is my preferred way of working. I just look for good light coming in through windows. Easy.

Marshall Angus videographered the entire adventure, and I’m excited to see what he captured.

Anyways, on to the photos:

This one is my favorite of the day.

Alright, so that was Sunday’s trash the dress session. We have an amazing plan for TTD#2. Oh, and if any of my previous (or future) brides are contemplating this, let me know, and we’ll get some ideas on the table. I want trash the dress shoots have to become part of my weekly photo schedule. They’re so much fun. If you don’t want to use your own dress, with some modifications, Value Village dresses can cut it.

That’s all for now. Look for some photos from my Vegas / L.A. adventure sometime later this week!
