First meeting

Here’s a few photos from the day:

Happy to say that UW leaves their lecture halls open all the time. So we took advantage.

Alright. So on Monday I’m off to Las Vegas, for a few photos at Showest (cinema industry tradeshow), and a drive from Vegas, to L.A. to Malibu and back. I should bring back lots of photos. Looks like next Sunday, I’ll also be heading to New York City to photograph Grand Central Stations BMW exhibit. And April 21st, it’s back to Vegas for NAB (Broadcasting, media, entertainment and communications tradeshow) Should be a fun month.

If you’re getting married here, I want to be your photographer. I love this place.

Back to business:

A little bit about the place – It’s a converted factory down at the east end of Union St. in Kitchener, and it’s divided up into 2 sections so far: the house, and the hall. From what I hear you can rent just the hall, or the hall and the house – rent the house if you want even more photo opportunities. From what I understand the back section is to be converted into a ball room sometime in the future. Right now it’s the catering area.

The thought that went into this structure is ridiculous. From finding trees at the side of the road to convert into hard wood flooring, to the converted basement / water storage system that runs the fountains…it’s just over the top in every aspect.

Kitchener Wedding Photography

Warning: Here comes a slew of disconnected paragraphs.

During the course of the week, three new amazing couples signed with me, and I’m so happy to get to photograph all of their unique weddings. The ideas range for Centre in the Square – to The Children’s Museum, or on top of Talisman Ski Hill (complete with gondola rides) – to the possibility of a wedding in Brazil.
Unique weddings need a unique photographer I suppose.

Tomorrow, I’m doing a trash the dress session with 2 brides. Hint: It involves paint. Lots of primary coloured paint.

Later in the week, it’s off to Las Vegas / L.A. – I’ll bring back pictures, lots of pictures.

I’m getting really excited for Anna & Matt, and Kristen & Josh’s weddings. They’re my two winter couples for December (Dec 20 – Cambridge, and 27 – Niagara Falls). I’m hoping for just a touch of snow, with warm temperatures in the afternoon.

Tonight is my first Saturday off in quite a while (that’s the life of a wedding photographer), and it just so happens to be one of my good friends birthdays. So, in celebration, 18 of us are taking a Hummer limo to Hamilton. I don’t think any specific plans have been made past that. Anyways, happy birthday Andres! (Aka Fes – stemming from a resemblance to Fes from That 70s Show..which just so happened to be his Halloween costume this year)

Oh, I should add a few photos here. This is a photography blog after all. Last weekend I took some photos of Hollie and her beautiful puppy, Jake.

Jake has more energy than any living being probably should. He calmed down for thirty seconds, and I snapped the above. Hollie is a wonderful hairdresser that works at Cowboys and Angels in Uptown Waterloo.

My good friend Marshall Angus is coming out to video tape the experience, so you’ll get all the sights, sounds and ..well, I guess no smells, but you probably know what paint smells like anyways.
I called up my brand new 2009 assistant to ask if she wanted to join in the fun tomorrow, but apparently she’s in New York City! Julie and I went to NYC for the Easter Weekend this year, so I will use this an excuse to post a few photos from my travels there.

January, I drove down with KW band named Gran Casino, to photograph their journey recording with Alex Newport (Mars Volta, At The Drive In, System of a Down) in Brooklyn. Over Easter, Julie and I nabbed the last room of an AMAZING hotel room sale, and drove down. 8 hour drive from Kitchener, and it only took my Corolla about a tank and a quarter of gas. Impressive.

Ok, that’s all. I swear. This has been my longest blog to date. My next post will likely come from Toronto’s Pearson Airport.

Oh, and it was an outdoor ceremony, on November 1st. They picked the perfect day. It was a little cold in the shade, but it was nice and toasty in the sun. It was supposed to be indoor, but they made the last minute call to set up outside, since it was a beautiful day.

I met Graham working at the Outback Steakhouse in Kitchener about 7 years ago. From there he went on to record and release a CD (Search: Graham Goss on iTunes). He plays a lot of music. Toronto, London, Waterloo. Catch him at Failties (pronounced Fel-sha) in uptown Waterloo every Monday night – well, maybe not this Monday night, since he’ll be on his honeymoon.
Speaking of their honeymoon, I have no idea where they went. When I was leaving on Saturday night, I asked where they were headed, and Graham responded with a ‘Haven’t booked anything yet, we’ll find out tomorrow’

Robyn and I took a few photos (check beside this paragraph) for her new site this weekend, after a wedding meeting with Todd and Eli – one of her August couples for next year.  They have the best engagement story of all time – it’s better than the movies. I’m really excited for their engagement session this fall, and wedding next summer.

She had her eyes on me pretty much the entire time. If only all kids were as easy to work with

We wandered around Rockway Gardens in Kitchener (They’re from Hamilton – thanks so much for driving down!) for about an hour, and took over 200 photos.
